We have been in those situations where you’re asked “What do you do for a living?!” When I respond with “I am a Project Manager” it’s often followed with a look of confusion, or minimal understanding.
People don’t always understand what it is that I do, and I understand this isn’t one of the standard professions talked about on career day. But this isn’t just a profession for me, it’s so much more!
When most people hear project management, they usually think of construction projects, corporate offices, color-coded Gantt charts, or someone keeping track of deadlines in a meeting. Sure, that’s part of it - but in my experience, project management shows up everywhere, not just in the boardroom.
Let’s be real:
If you’ve ever coordinated a family vacation, managed a kid’s sports schedule, cleaned the house before company arrives, or juggled back-to-back dentist appointments and oil changes — you’re doing project management.
